EDA Invests $2.4 Million in Roadway Infrastructure to Support of Commerce in Eastern Ohio Appalachia

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.4 million grant to the County of Mahoning, Ohio, to support the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Upgrade project. The project will provide roadway upgrades, bridge replacements, drainage enhancements, and other necessary improvements to better position the corridor as an attractive location for job growth and business expansion. The EDA grant is expected to create or retain more than 140 jobs and generate $5 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

 

Envision is proud to have assisted Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and their regional partner, Mahoning County, with the preparation of another successful grant application bringing federal investment to Eastern Ohio Appalachia.

 

 

Village of Poland and Poland Local Schools partnering to release Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for adaptive reuse of historic Union School

The Poland Local School District, along with their partner, the Village of Poland is issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to select a real estate development firm for the redevelopment of the Union School building and property at 30 Riverside Drive in Poland, Ohio.

 

Envision identified the adaptive reuse of the Union School building as a community priority in the Strategic Plan they prepared for the Village in 2021. Envision assisted the School District and Village in crafting the RFQ.

 

 

City of Madeira awarded $3.4 Million in Congressionally Directed Spending for Miami Avenue enhancements

The City of Madeira was awarded $3.4 Million in Congressionally Directed Spending for the Miami Complete Streets and Revitalization project. This catalytic project was made possible through bipartisan federal support from Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-02), as well as state and local community support from Ohio Representative Jessica Miranda (D-28) and the Madeira Chamber of Commerce.

 

This federal funding award will continue to advance the City and Envision’s implementation efforts of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Envision was able to once again assist the City to secure outside funding assistance by leveraging the Comprehensive Plan and stakeholder support.

 

 

Youngstown Business Incubator awarded $1.35 Million in funding by Appalachian Regional Commission

Envision assisted the Youngstown Business Incubator (YBI) with an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER Grant for the Lake to River Small Business Success (L2RSBS) project encompassing a seven-county region in Eastern Ohio. The project was awarded $1.35 Million in ARC POWER funds.

 

Funds will be used to strengthen the local economic base by assisting Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in accessing capital, pursuing procurement opportunities, business plan development, adopting advanced technologies (in both manufacturing and nonmanufacturing settings), and supporting startup formation.

 

 

City of Madeira awarded $3.6 Million in SORTA Transit Infrastructure Funding

The City of Madeira, Ohio was approved for $3.6 Million in funding through the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) Transit Infrastructure Fund for development of the Miami Avenue Complete Streets & Revitalization. The project will transform the City’s primary commercial corridor through traffic calming and streetscape enhancing that encourage private investment in underutilized properties and position them for infill mixed-use redevelopment.

 

Miami Avenue was a Focus Area of the City’s first ever Comprehensive Plan prepared by Envision. Envision is proud to have prepared the funding application for the City as part of its ongoing implementation services efforts.

 

 

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments awarded state funding to conduct feasibility study for smart logistics hub

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments was awarded $400,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Office of Statewide Planning and Research to conduct a feasibility study for a smart logistics hub in the vicinity of the former GM plant in the Village of Lordstown. The study will assess the deployment of automated and connected vehicle technologies and electric vehicle (EV) charging to position the area as the region’s premier logistics and distribution hub.

 

Envision has been working closely with Eastgate since the inception of the smart logistics concept and prepared the funding application to advance the project’s development.

 

 

Phase II of Plum Creek Greenway secures $500,000 through Clean Ohio Trails Fund

The City of Brunswick was awarded $500,000 in funding through the Clean Ohio Trails Fund for the development of Phase II of the Plum Creek Greenway. This funding award will advance project development and allow the City to break ground on Phase II of the Greenway, a 0.7-mile trail segment linking Medina County Park District, multiple City Parks, and Huntington Elementary School with a new trailhead at Laurel Road. Building upon existing partnerships between the City, County, and City Schools, once completed the Plum Creek Greenway will link Medina County Park District facilities at Plum Creek Park and Brunswick Lake Park to form the spine of a 4.5-mile trail system that links pedestrians and cyclists to recreational, residential, commercial, and institutional assets and vibrant neighborhoods.

 

Envision is thrilled to have once again successfully assisted the City with grant writing and technical services to advance the next phase of this priority recommendation of the Advance Brunswick: Comprehensive Plan.

 

 

City of Brunswick awarded $301,500 through Clean Ohio Trails Fund

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) awarded the City of Brunswick $301,500 in 2019 Clean Ohio Trail Funds for Phase I of the Plum Creek Greenway. Envision prepared the grant application on behalf of the City in close coordination with project partners - the Medina County Park District and the Brunswick City Schools.

 

Phase I of the Plum Creek Greenway will design and construct approximately 6,000 feet of 10-foot-wide, asphalt, multi-use trail. The Greenway will link critical recreational and institutional assets with residential neighborhoods, creating the first linear multi-purpose trail in Northern Medina County. Clean Ohio Trails Fund assistance will fund the construction phase of this project.

 

The Plum Creek Greenway was identified as a priority recommendation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update prepared by Envision and will ultimately serve as the spine of a multimodal transportation network connecting to Brunswick Lake.

 

 

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments awarded $10.85 Million for Youngstown SMART² Network

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments (Eastgate) was awarded a $10,853,192 BUILD grant from the US Department of Transportation to construct the SMART² Network in Downtown Youngstown, Ohio.  Envision is proud to have prepared this successful funding application on behalf of Eastage, the MPO for the Mahoning Valley region.

 

The project will provide autonomous transit shuttles, transit waiting environments, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, green infrastructure, streetscaping, and wayfinding linking regional anchor institutions impacting economic resurgence across the Mahoning Valley.  Eastagate's project partners include the City of Youngstown, Youngstown State University, Mercy Health, and Western Reserve Transit Authority.

City of Akron awarded $8,000,743 for Downtown Promenade

Envision assisted the City of Akron with the State of Ohio’s only successful USDOT TIGER grant application for FY2017, awarded $8,000,743 to construct integrated multimodal and green infrastructure enhancements along Main Street in the heart of Downtown.

 

Envision authored the City’s 30-page Application Narrative and prepared the accompanying Benefit-Cost Analysis in accordance with USDOT’s BCA Methodology.

 

The primary selection criteria for TIGER awards include considerations for safety, state of good repair, economic competitiveness, quality of life and environmental sustainability for each project. Secondary criteria include innovation and partnerships.

 

The Downtown Akron Promenade is a strategic investment that will transform a 1,700-foot segment of Main Street from Mill Street to Perkins Street (SR-59) as the second phase of a 1.4-mile “Green and Complete Street” gateway corridor through the heart of the City’s urban core linking residents to ladders of opportunity by connecting centers of education, employment, innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, entertainment and recreation.  Phase II will build on the momentum of the Phase I project funded through a TIGER FY2016 Grant.
